This may seem a weird thing to comment on, but I want to compliment you on your choice of time period. Looks like you set this after Shepherd Book left (I think his reaction would have been a bit awkward,) but while Inara and her enlightened view of sexual relations are still around. I'm also glad that you set this before Wash died because his whole chapter is so damned funny, plus his presence influences Zoe's reaction, I think.
I never would have thought to ship Jayne and Simon, but you made it work. Good job, especially for your first fic.
